Festival of Quilts - Japanese inspirations and miniatures
There were a few Japanese inspired quilts and pieces at the show. This amazing quilt featuring two maiko was in the SAQA European and ME Region exhibition, 'Made in Europe II'.
A very effective use of yukata cotton kimono fabric, reminiscent of the work of Kitty Pippen in her book, Quilting with Japanese Fabrics.
This featured blocks from my Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match book, and sashiko designs from The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook. I was impressed that someone in the group had managed to do sorobanzashi (abacus stitch) - not an easy hitomezashi (one stitch sashiko) pattern at all!
This nicely made hippari also features blocks from Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match, and some nicely done sashiko. Very wearable.
Also from the SAQA exhibit.
Miniatures had some fabulous entries this year.
