Glyn's quilts at Sandown Park

Glyn did well with his quilts at the National Quilt Championships at Sandown Park last weekend - we weren't there as we were doing World Textile Day at Bridge of Allan, Stirling on Saturday (photos later, when Bob's sent me some). He won Rookie of the Year and third in Small Wall Hanging for his Mission Impossible quilt, and got second in the Wearable Art category for his 'Hadrian's Bag'.  Thanks to Kate North for these photos.  I'll take some more pics of his bag when it comes home - it has appliques under the flap with hand drawn maps/plans of Hadrian's Wall on it.  You can see him making the wooden end panels here.  Well done! It was worthwhile staying up late to get the bag finished too.

Sandown Park and World Textile Day Scotland

This year, I won't be at the National Quilt Championships at Sandown Park because it clashes with World Textile Day Scotland.  We held the first WTD Scotland last year and it went down so well, this time we've got even more space for our exhibits, talks and sales.  I just couldn't miss it.  I'll be back at Sandown Park sometime in the future.

Glyn has entered two of his quilts for the National Quilt Championships, so if you are going to Esher, look out for these - in the Theme category (A Touch of Yellow) and Small Wallhanging.

He's also entered a mystery piece in the Wearable Art category.  Here's some photos of the early stages. No fabric yet! The wood is recycled from an old burred oak fencepost.  It was sliced into boards by hand, filled with gold resin, shaped and sanded - bag panels.  The rest will be quilted.

Glyn's latest quilt - work in progress for Loch Lomond Quilt Show

Glyn has been working on this year's entry for the Loch Lomond Quilt Show.  Here are some work in progress photos.  This year's Men Only theme is 'Manmade'. You'll have to wait until after the show to see the finished piece - unless you are visiting of course.  Clues - it is very reflective and in real life is much, much bigger! He's also entered it for 'A Touch of Yellow', this year's theme category at the National Quilting Championships at Sandown Park, and is planning to send it to the Great Northern Quilt Show at Harrogate and the Scottish Quilt Championships at Edinburgh as well.

Here's a useful idea for improvising weights while the 505 spray glue dries -
