Sashiko in York

The York Museum currently has a sashiko exhibition until 3rd January 2010. They have most of my Euro Japan Links sashiko kits, and my "Hyakutoku" miniature kimono wallhanging kit, plus "The Ultimate Sashiko Soucebook" for sale in the museum shop. They have got both versions of my maneki neko cat - the sashiko one (below left) and the original applique cat (below right).

All these kits can also be ordered from Euro Japan Links Limited (there's a link in the righthand menu on this blog) and of course the sashiko book can be ordered direct from me.

Yesterday I managed to fit in both the Sashiko exhibition and the Turkey Red quilt/textile exhibition at the Quilt Museum (open until December 23rd), plus a bit of Christmas shopping, on my way home from Stockton. York definitely has some great shops. Even Tourist Information came up with some presents, including a guide book in Japanese!

The Quilt Museum has a good Japanese-themed selection too which is where I bought one of your great books. What did you think of the sashiko exhibition? I was stunned, loved it.

I've reviewed the sashiko exhibition for Fabrications magazine, so hopefully that will be out in the New Year. I enjoyed the exhibition very much - it was great to be able to see the vintage and antique sashiko in particular without having to go to Fukuoka Museum etc.! The museums that loaned the works are quite spread out and there's no guarantee that these pieces would even be on display when you visited. The "rabbit donza" is one of my favourites. Shame there is no catalogue.
