Sarah's Triangles quilt in Today's Quilter magazine

'Sarah's Triangles', my quilt inspired by the Sarah Wyatt quilt at the V & A, is in the current issue of Today's Quilter magazine.  TQ posted these lovely detail photos on their Facebook page today.  The design is relatively simple, and I like the way the original has three slightly different sizes of half square triangle, instead of them all being the same size.

There's a link to the V & A's online catalogue via this blog post from 2011.  I quilted my version differently from the original, as I gave it a much wider border so it needed a little more.  The Hobbs wool wadding was so nice to hand quilt, I didn't want to stop!

My contribution to issue 5 of Today's Quilter is Sarah's Triangles, a throw sized quilt inspired by the Sarah Wyatt quilt at the V & A.  Mine has much wider borders, so I couldn't resist some extra details in the quilting, and I finished it yesterday.  If you'd like to make it, start looking for two charm packs for all the half square triangles... Think antique/reproduction fabrics, with browns, madder reds and creams, with a touch of pale greyish blue.  Issue 5 will be on sale on 7th January.

Let there be light!

I did the last outdoor quilt tacking of the year today.  It is the top I made mostly from charm squares, based on the Sarah Wyatt quilt at the V & A, but a bit scaled down from the original.  Mine is approx. 60in square, while the original measures more than 90in.  It was just a fraction too long for the tapes on the quilt frame's shorter pole set, but I managed to do it without having to put the much longer poles on the frame.  We could do with making a third set of poles around 90in long.

The quilt will be appearing in a future issue of Today's Quilter magazine, but I don't know which one yet. Cinnabar and Nutmeg will be in issue 3 which will be in the shops on 12th November, along with the pattern for this very easy spiral Log Cabin, which I've called 'Down Memory Lane'.  It was my second quilt, so it is definitely an easy make.

Glyn has been getting on with the electrics for the summerhouse, wiring in the overhead light with a temporary fitting for a single light bulb. After we have painted the ceiling and clad the interior, it will be having a five arm purple chandelier...

Glyn found a use for the hole in his jumper... Good thing he hasn't darned it!

A 'quilt' in the garden

Only a patchwork as yet. This is my version of the quilt labelled 'SarahWyatt' in the V & A's collection. Mine is made from 5in charm squares for the triangle squares, so the size is smaller than the original, so I compensated with a wider outer border. Most of the fabrics are by Moda, though I'm not sure about the wavy shirting stripe that borders the centre. As the triangle squares in the original are slightly different sizes in each section, I've kept that in my patchwork - while making them all the same size would be the easy option, IMHO it would destroy some of the naive charm of this quilt. Photographed in the arbour (if we get a dry weekend, I'll repaint it, but then I will loose a shabby chic photography location till it has weathered down again!)

The garden is looking very lush, if in need of a little taming.
