Patchwork and Sashiko residential courses for Autumn 2010 and Winter/Spring 2011

Now the details are sorted out, I can release info on some super residential courses I'll be teaching.

First of all, I'm back at Denman College, near Abindon, Oxfordshire, for a new sashiko course, Sashiko Quilting Part 2. I've designed this as a follow up to my earlier courses at Denman. Just click the link to get all the information and booking contacts.

If Oxfordshire is a bit of a trek for you (I'm thinking of all us northerners now!), I am delighted to announce some special residential courses that will be held at the Royal Hotel, Bridlington, starting in the New Year. The Royal is a lovely venue and our hosts are Tim Norman (a friend since we were toddlers!) and his wife Fiona, a fellow quilter. They have been persuaded to extend their themed holidays to include some of my courses. Here's the main info - please note the part about non-quilting partners too (I'm sure Tim and Fiona could combine one of their special golfing packages if that's their thing, but Bridlington makes a good base for walking and touring the Yorkshire coast too).

Sashiko Furoshiki

The furoshiki is a traditional gift wrapping cloth which will measure approximately 1 metre square. It makes an unusual tablecloth, quilt centre or the designs can be stitched as cushion panels.

  • Explore three ways of marking sashiko:
  • Making and using a paper pattern
  • Using a ruler and template
  • And marking a kamon family crest using traditional Chaco transfer paper
  • Plus - Stitching the patterns using an "invisible" method to start and stop.

Sashiko was often used to reinforce the corners of furoshiki and to identify the owner via the crest.

Price includes morning coffee & biscuits on arrival, buffet Lunch & afternoon tea & cake.

Amazing value for only £30 per person.

Monday 11th April 2011 – 3 night residential
