Noosa Quilters' workshop today covered the sashiko and patchwork blocks in the image above, from 'Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match'. Quite a challenging design to create, as the hexagon and diamond wave patchwork designs have around 78 pieces per block! The first sashiko blocks were marked and begun in the morning, moving on to 60-degree triangles in striped or directional fabrics creating the patchwork designs during the afternoon. It was a warm day (for me) but their workroom in the old part of Wallace House was well-lit and breezy - the ceiling fans and open windows sometimes blowing the patchwork pieces around!

The variety of fabrics used for the patchwork will make a great selection of projects and I'm looking forward to seeing some of the finished pieces. After all, the 'quilt' from my book, in the first photo, is a computer generated image, repeating the individual blocks - I would like to make it in real life sometime.
Wish we could have stayed longer with this friendly and fun group!

The drive up here was pretty long - I enjoyed all the scenery and changing views - but I understand why Bev was a bit anxious to get away so we would get the main part of the journey out of the way before dark.
