Stitching, sewing and quilting at the SECC
We should have been travelling to Bridlington on Saturday for a North Country quilting course with Lilian Hedley, but unfortunately Lilian has broken her ankle and the course has been postponed until October. So we headed off to the Stitching Sewing and Quilting Show at the SECC in Glasgow. Although this show has been established as a more general crafting show (papercrafts, jewellery etc.) for a while, this is the first time they have included a lot of quilting. By the time I heard that there was going to be a large quilting element, we were already booked for our course, so I didn't think we'd be able to attend. We enjoyed going as visitors. Linzi Upton had her quilted yurt on display - I think this is the first time we've seen it.
She was also showing 'Henge' and her coracle.
There were some competitive quilts - these sections will be bigger next year. The theme was 'Northern Lights'.
Other quilts we liked -
There were several exhibitions by various Quilters' Guild groups, including Contemporary Quilt, and exhibits by local quilt groups, including the Glasgow Gathering of Quilters (didn't get any photos of those though).
The City & Guilds Diploma work from the course run at The Studio, Loch Lomond, were also on show. This piece is by Moira Gaw, who was one of my sashiko students the first year we ran the Yuza and Shonai Sashiko course there.
I'm planning to attend the show next year, as a demonstrator and trader.
Saturday would have been too wet and windy for summerhouse work, but we got a bit more done with the shingles yesterday. The shingles are finished on the sides and almost finished on the back and front - but we stopped work at 5p.m. when the temperature got down to 2 degrees C! Whatever happened to the warmer weather we were supposed to get this weekend?

Thanks for highlighting my 'Rules the Waves' - I'd forgotten it was 0n tour to these shows !
Mags, it was one of our favourites of course. I took the photo showing the wider view of that display so you could see how it looked alongside the others. Very 'you'!
Hi Susan, I really enjoy your blog and was thrilled to see photos of my C&G Noren included! I'm looking forward to the diploma course and having you as a classmate
