End of steelmaking on Teesside?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tees/8520933.stm

Spoke to my dad earlier this evening. He explained that they are going to tap the salamander at the steelworks tomorrow - he had seen it on the local news. This means the furnace will have to be more or less rebuilt as this is below the normal point where the steel is tapped, right at the bottom of the furnace.

Dad used to design the cooling systems for the blast furnaces, all over the world. Since at least my great grandfather's days (he built refractory linings in furnaces), the family have been engineering steel, so I've gone off on a bit of a tangent!
