A sneak peak of a work in progress...

Longarm quilting specialist and multi prizewinner Ferret didn't get much time to recover from her fashion show marathon at Festival of Quilts before getting down to work on a quilt for my spring book for next year. The book will be called "Japanese Quilting Inspirations" and is being published by David & Charles in Spring 2011. Click here to see a tiny bit of the border and Ferret's thread audition.

This book will have twenty main quilts from ten patterns, all designed to showcase your Japanese fabrics collection, plus five projects to try out the designs on a smaller scale. One quilt from each pattern is being handquilted by me and the other one is being lonagarm quilted. I've tried to pair up the five quilters with quilts that will suit their style, which means Ferret has drawn the short straw with the three quilts she is quilting - this first quilt is made entirely from Japanese kimono silks, in glowing autumn shades. I knew she would be able to handle this one - Ferret is no stranger to vivid oranges and yellows. The handquilted version combines printed Japanese cottons and woven stripes, in blues, purples and multicolours.

In addition to the fabric suppliers list I usually include, the contact details for all the quilters will be included, so readers can make their quilt top and send it to the same quilters if they wish, with a request for something similar!

There will be several opportunities to see all the quilts together, as Grosvenor Shows will be taking them on tour to the Autumn Quilt Shows next year.
