From the Japan Now and Then blog on October 29, two swords missing from the Shousouin Imperial Repository at Nara since December 26, 769 AD, have been identified as two found under the Great Buddha at Nara in 1907 - here's links the story in the Mainichi Daily News and the Yomiuri Shimbun. I hope my mislaid box of 35mm slides shows up more quickly than those swords...

Yes, just 1241 years later. Or maybe that should be 1111 years, since the swords were found in 1907.
I just can't wait that long for anything I misplace!
