Quilts UK 2011 - Friday

Greetings from Malvern!

My small sampler quilt won 3rd in the Cot Quilts category. The blocks are from the 'Retro Revival' chapter in '130 Little Quilt Blocks'.

'Kunimoto' (hometown), from 'Japanese Quilt Inspirations', in 'Bed Quilts'. The front of this quilt combines various Japanese silks, including slubbed silk tsumugi and rinzu silk damask.

It was freehand machine quilted by Ferret - here's a detail of one of the blocks. The quilting designs were inspired by Japanese flora, including mountain vegetables (which look like fern shoots).

It has been a good day for catching up with things quilters have finished, from workshops and books. 'Recycled Curves' from the workshop near East Grinstead earlier this month -

Sashiko from one of my Denman College courses -

A version of the zipover backpack from '21 Terrific Patchwork Bags' -

An applique sampler quilt using kamon crests, mainly from 'Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match' -

A panel in progress from 'Japanese Taupe Quilt Blocks', combining the various cherry blossom blocks -

Hopefully I'll see some more tomorrow.

The marquee was very warm yesterday but today the weather was cooler and the showground staff had rigged shades over the 'glazing' at the end, keeping the temperature under control.
