Great Northern Quilt Show

The quilt display stands were up and the exhibits bagged and ready for hanging late yesterday afternoon when I delivered the quilts from my latest book, 'Japanese Quilt Inspirations', to the showground at Harrogate. The Great Northern Quilt Show opens on Friday and we will be setting up my stand tomorrow afternoon. The photo shows 'Hanui' at last year's show, where it was awarded a Judge's Merit in the themed category - as was my other entry, 'Utamaro no Ukiyo-e' - I wonder if this is unique? Two Merits in the same category? They are very different quilts, although I did sneak in a bit of the border fabric from Hanui into the little art quilt.

This is one of my favourite shows, as we usually fit in a bit of extra curricular fun, including the obligatory traditional fish and chips on Friday night. Plus it's the one where I get to meet lots of quilters from Teesside and North Yorkshire, as well as our own area.

Vicky from Grosvenor Shows told me there's more traders than ever too, with some new faces taking part, so that should be interesting! This quilt show is unusual in that it incorporates the Great Northern Needlecraft Show as well, so there is a lot of interesting stuff for embroiderers and other crafters as well as quilters - and things that just might come in handy if your quilting is pushing the boundaries a little.

It's unusual getting 2 merits in one class but it happened to me this year at Sandown in the the Bed Quilts.

It was a good show I can't wait for your next post.

I had a funny feeling I'd seen 2 merits somewhere else!
