STOP PRESS! New BRIDLINGTON workshops announced

I've been trying to sort out some dates for workshops with Fiona at the Royal Hotel, Bridlington, after the great workshops and residential courses we had there earlier this year, and so far both our booking diaries just wouldn't coincide with suitable dates. However, due to a cancellation by another tutor, three dates in February have come up and we are proposing to run the following workshops - Spinning Squares, Komebukuro Bag and Time & Time Again. Yes, the last two of those are brand new workshops! All the workshops can be run together as a residential course (for residential participants there will be informal evening sewing sessions where you can continue working on your projects too) or done as individual day workshops (you can book individual night's stays too).

I've chosen these courses because they make the most of precuts - 10in square Layer Cakes (Spinning Squares), 5in Charm packs (Komebukuro bag) and Jelly Rolls (21/2in strips -Time & Time Again) - but of course you can always cut the required pieces from your own stash. Full requirements lists will be sent out on booking. Fiona will be busily putting the booking info up as soon as possible on their website.

Spinning Squares (image above) -

Tuesday 7th February - 1 Day 11am to 5pm approx

Ideal for Layer Cakes or cut your own 10in squares. Make these fascinating blocks from wedge-shaped pieces, cutting with the 60-degree angle on your ruler (beginners) or varying the angles (intermediate), learning how to sew nice sharp centre points. This block puts your quilt in a spin, so get started with your own Spinning Squares. Finished quilt is thirty 8in blocks – we’ll make as many as we can on the day.

The photos below show some of the blocks made in workshops at Purely Patchwork, Linlithgow, and at Gresford. It's another block that works with so many different fabric combinations.

Komebukuro Bag -

Wednesday 8th February -1 Day 11am to 5pm approx

‘Komebukuro’ are traditional Japanese drawstring storage bags and the 9in version makes a great craft workbag. Make two bags from a charm pack and ten 10in squares (great for leftover Layer Cake squares!) or one bag from ten 10in squares. This is a variation on the Komebukuro Bag from my new book, ‘Japanese Quilt Inspirations’. Suitable for all skill levels.

The one below is by Ann Ferguson at Quiltopia, Maleny, Queensland (see my previous post for more info about Ann's bags).

Time & Time Again -

Thursday 9th February – 1 day 11am to 5pm approx

A Jelly Roll version of my popular ‘Time and Again’ quilt. Learn how to piece with a ‘part sewn seam’, so your blocks seem to turn around and around. Great for batiks and directional fabrics too, while you can feature special fabrics in the block centre. Finished quilt is 60 x 38in.

Price includes morning coffee & biscuits on arrival, buffet Lunch & afternoon tea & cake. The food at the Royal is excellent IMHO. I have to be careful not to indulge too much when I work there for several days! These workshops are fantastic value for only £35 per day per person (day workshop rate).
