Off the (re-"fridge"rator) hook till Monday...

Having lived without a fridge for the last 3 weeks since the 15-year-old Zannusi gave up, this should be arriving on Monday. I've hardy dared commit to anything extra on weekdays in anticipation of it's imminent arrival...

For the last 18 months, we only had the old fridge. The freezer, which used to be in the garage, had to go before we started bricking up the garage doorway for the workroom conversion in August 2008. There was no way we could get it out afterwards, as it wouldn't fit through the slightly misaligned doors in and out of the hall. I didn't want to share my new workspace with a freezer forever!

The kitchen is too small for a full width fridge & freezer size by side and I am too short to get into the top of a large conventional fridge freezer without a stepladder, so a side by side was the best option to make good use of the space. I'm having to move some stuff out of my dining room sewing corner to bring it through. That's where I used to handsew before the new workroom was fitted out and there's a shelving unit with various bits and pieces (mostly boxes of threads) that needs to move out.

The thing I am most looking forward to is buying some frozen peas!

I can appreciate your euphoria - at work we've finally had delivery of new fridges for seed storage and chemicals. No more puddles on the floor and defrosting every week -hurrah!!
You mean you haven't been using the snow as an impromptu fridge?!!We just about managed with a coolbox when we had to wait 6 days between moving house and our fridge/freezer being delivered. As it was a hot August, what we most appreciated on its arrival was butter/margarine that wasn't liquid and salad that wasn't limp!
In your excitement don't forget you have to leave it a day plugged in to settle...

Of course, the old one broke down as soon as the big thaw started! We have been using the car boot as a fridge over the last week once temperatures started to fall again. Must look quite bizarre going out there for milk at night! I'm going away to teach on Monday and won't be back till late on Tuesday at the earliest, so those peas will have to wait anyway.

My favorite part of the post is that you spell refridgerator the way I thought it should be spelled until somehow, a year or two ago possibly when I got a new fridge, I was ruin't forever. Guess I'm sort of passing along the curse, but we can just ignore the dictionary and spell it that way still. : ) Clearly 'frige' doesn't work.

VBG I was trying to do American spelling! But also because we will be "re"-fridged, if you see what I mean.
